I feel the female psyche today is essentially no different than it was decades ago. While men still like to play the role of protector/hero, women still want love, caring, and respect. Not to be considered as just a piece of human flesh for the larder. While women today have it easier than their predecessors in employment and status, for example Hillary Clinton or Sarah Palin, (Hey, you’ve come a long way baby), some things have not changed.
Chivalry is not dead, it just has gone into potential hibernation. I know I was brought up with certain courtesies to be performed from childhood till senility. Although the majority of women expect the man to open doors for them, and give up their seats in the train, I, myself abide by these. I believe most men are. It still bothers me if I hold open a door for a lady and she doesn’t say thanks or give me a quick smile. I also think most women expect it and that’s fine, but, with women’s emancipation, comes what I’ll call the hardliners.
Those women who want to wear the pants in the family. They want to open the doors themselves. That’s fine, as long as they don’t go butchy and lose their femininity. Now there is nothing wrong with equality between men and women, but guys can get gun shy pretty darn quick when involved with a feminist personality. No, chivalry is not dead. It is simply a feminist plot to overthrow the male ego.
